Change of project

After much research I found that the current project was a dead end and found it really not the right project as it was very focused on one particular area and there wasn’t enough of a problem to be used for my project.

The new project is aimed at Australian Youth and has to do with saving and how we really don’t do it. Here is a little from my proposal for lissa.

‘Saving money is really quite easy; you budget and you plan to prepare for the future. For the youth of Australia this has become a thing of the past. Saving money for Australian youth is really not happening these days. The distractions of going clubbing, spending money on clothes or binge eating and drinking are really what Australian youth is really all about. This issue is really not publicised as much as it should be and should be addressed.

When we look at the youth of Australia – what do you see? A generation filled with the idea that the more you have and the better things you have then someone else makes you a better person, cooler and above someone else. The problem with the youth of Australia isn’t the issue of people buying items and the fact that they buy things that they really don’t need or have to have, but more so for the reason that the item being purchased is cool, rare or is something that will makes them feel good about themselves. It brings up the issue of saving and how the youth of Australia – mostly 16 to 23 year olds really don’t know how to save or plan for the future.

The project is to be aimed at the younger generation of people and to consist of a simple campaign that aims to reach this target market and create a social change in the Australian youths attitudes, lifestyles and thinking towards saving and the future.’

Names for organisation.

After playing around with names on my A3 page I came up with a few variation and new names for the organisation. The name for me had to be catchy and creative, so that people will remember it easily and also like the idea and meaning behind it. The following names are some i’ve come to like;

Below is a logo that I just love! Its simple and I think really shows the idea behind my organisation. It to me looks like its incorporating the world with two paths, which in my case can resemble the life of a piece of clothing and how both lives meet eventually. Could work with this logo and create something similar.

Whilst researching over the net for other organisations similar to my own. I found this site that is exactly the layout and style I want mine to be.

Simple Trade are an online site designed to sell items and also to help people buy wanted items and advertise it. The site is very simple and easy to use. I want to create a site similar except its free to add an advertisement and its about swapping and also I like the idea of advertising something that people are looking for!

Class Exercise.

During Kimberleys class we were given an exercise to cut out photos and text and place it on an a3 page, trying to get a grid and also focus points on the page. I really was shocked to find out how easy it is to do this without using computers and programs. I thought this exercise gave a good insight into creating posters without the need from computers. My poster I thought worked as it focused first on the heading then the article in bedded into the shape of the mobile phone just followed on straight from the heading.

Using words found from my A3 page I then on illustrator made the words look like what they are saying. I chose 9 words and my favourite is unique.

An A3 to help me with my community project. The page has symbols, words, a mind-map and a picture narrative to help me develop the idea for my project. I also included names for the project such as ‘Re-vintaged’ which I like because it gives a sense of vintage clothing a second use or life.

Ebay – PROBLEM!

There is the issue of eBay. People who have this urge to buy clothing, use eBay to shop with while at home or at work. There is alot of vintage clothing on both www.ebay.com.au or www.ebay.com or www.ebay.co.uk

All these online stores only worsen the problem of spending money on clothing that isn’t needed. People would benefit from this site because they would be able to post up clothing they never wear for clothing that they might of bought on eBay but someone else might want to swap for something new.

The you tube clip below is a funny song about how people buy unnecessary things on eBay that are pointless and not needed and just highlights the problem that people buy just to buy and SHOULD save their money for more important things.

Research Methods for project

The research I need to do for my organization is mainly based on people who have this passion for clothes. So I need to interview people from all ages who have this urge to spend money on clothing and who have a wardrobe full of unnecessary clothing. I then thought that interviewing other types of places such as St Vincent De Paul’s or second hand clothing stores would help me get a different perspective on the idea and to see what they thought.

Interviews: Through interviews I would be able to get an idea as to what each person being interviewed had problems with in regards to money, clothing, family issues and social issues.

Surveys: Surveying all types of people not only having an issue with clothing but just random people in general could give me a spark to help me with developing my organisation and idea. Surveys also help me gather statistics on age, location, sex, religion and any other similar factors I could find from the interviews.

Focus Groups: Being in a group situation with people who have a passion for clothing can spark ideas and help to further develop my idea and organisation. Also can give me a better insight as to how these people think and live – getting a look at their lifestyles and routines.

Observing/photos: I think photos can tell a thousand words. Observing peoples homes, wardrobes, clothing style can really help me get into the heads of how these types of people think and how my project will help benefit both these people and the community in general.

Community Project Idea.

The idea for my project came about from one of my passions – vintage shopping. There is a massive benefit with vintage shopping in that you are donating at the same time as well as getting (mostly) good, rare, quality items. My idea came about from the problem that we live in a materialistic world. These days people aren’t judged on who they are inside but more-so what they have or look like. This is why clothing is such a big issue. People always want that rare jacket or that awesome vintage t-shirt. The idea for my community project is the fact that there are many people who just spend spend spend on clothing. Spend money on clothing they don’t need but just to get that cool shirt or rare piece of clothing. Then people have this over-accumulation of clothing that is never used. So i thought up the idea of instead of people just having clothing kept in their wardrobe unused, they could post photos onto a website and instead of selling them, swapping clothing. This way people don’t have to waste their money on clothing but instead use it for better uses. Also the over-accumulation of clothes will not be an issue. People will be able to swap, donate or even sell there clothes for free using this website. This will help people from the community to save, which is a big problem in todays youth.

Foster care crisis as families fall apart

This article found in The Sydney Morning Herald – Weekend Edition (March 15-16, 2008), discusses the problem that NSW is facing towards abusive and dysfunctional families. According the to Department of Community Services there is a 65% increase in the number of indigenous children in care. This is causing huge problems for the Foster carers and community services involved in helping these kids (such as St Vincent De Paul). The numbers are increasing each year and Departmental projections predict that the numbers will increase to 20,000 children in 4 years time. Then there is the problem of the number of foster carers. Recruitment is a huge concern with grandparents now stepping in to lend a helping hand. I really think that St Vincent De Paul should try to help aid this problem along with other similar organisations such as Salvation Army, Oxfarm, Anglican Church.
